Annual Developments in Banking Regulation

Abstract: In 2011, the banking regulation and supervision of China was characterized by the prompt intervention in potential risks and the implementation of forward-looking regulation. They are mainly shown in the liquidation and standardization of platform loans using market-oriented approaches, the differentiated regulation towards real estate loans, the vigorous implementation of new loan rules and contract corrections, the development and implementation of new regulatory standards, and the establishment of a framework and path to implement the fruit of international financial regulatory reform for the Chinese banking sector. In the future,the banking regulation will follow the risk-oriented principle, preventing and controlling risks in important areas, pushing  banks to change development modes, and supporting the development of the real economy. In particular, the simultaneous implementation of Basel Ⅱ and Basel Ⅲ, together with the coordinated execution of Pillar 1, Pillar 2 and Pillar 3, will form a significant reform in China banking regulation, and profoundly alter the specialty and comprehensiveness of banking regulation.
